February 2019 – Grossman & Keith (G&K) was tasked with evaluating realignment/improvement alternatives of SH-80 to directly connect to SH-51 near the Town of Hulbert in Cherokee County. The purpose of the proposed improvements is to correct roadway deficiencies, enhance safety, and efficiently accommodate traffic. Three alternatives were selected for stakeholder and public for review and input.
The three alternatives selected for public input were:

Alternative 1: New alignment west of existing S. Wilson Lane

Alternative 2: New alignment along existing S. Wilson Lane (section line)

Alternative 3: New alignment along existing S. Wilson Lane (section line) with curb and gutter on the left of the alignment, north of the creek
Environmental studies (archaeological, biological, hazardous waste, and noise) were conducted to determine if there are any constraints. These studies were used to assist with the determination of the alternatives for further evaluation.
February 4, 2020 – A Public Open House occurred to allow the stakeholders and public to review and provide input on the three alternatives. Graphics and documentation were provided to allow the public to review. G&K, Guernsey (environmental consultant), and ODOT were present at the open house to allow the public to ask and discuss the three alternatives. June 2020 – Based upon the completed engineering review, public meeting participation and state and federal agency input; ODOT selected Alternative 1 (new alignment west of existing S. Wilson Lane) as the preferred alignment. The preferred alignment will best meet the improvement goals. The preliminary design for Alternative 1 was initiated.
January 6 to January 20, 2022 – A Virtual Open House to occur to present the final design of SH-80 to the stakeholders and public. This Virtual Open House will allow stakeholders and public to provide comments on the preferred alignment design.
The project is scheduled for right-of-way and utility relocations in FY 2022 with projected construction in FY 2025.
